The first time I joined DYW, I was so ready for a change, and excited to try something new. I started off doing well, following the menus, taking lots of classes and creating a new, sustainable routine for my life.
Unfortunately, things got complicated, as they often do, and my weight loss and progress took a backseat to the demands of everyday life. Even as I started to derail and lose focus, I continued to get unbelievable support through the DYW program and the others who were going on the same journey that I was.
I decided to recommit to Deflate Your Weight this Winter, and I loved the compassion and understanding that I received from those running the group. They went through it just like we did and they know how challenging it is to completely change your lifestyle. They were constantly posting words of encouragement and tips and new ideas to try. I think getting new recipes every other day or ideas for snacks helped me tremendously, because it allowed me to feel like I wasn’t depriving myself of anything.
Through Deflate Your Weight, I learned not to beat myself up when I chose to eat something that wasn’t so healthy–that it’s just one bump in a big road that I’m still on. I’m also a total sugar addict and DYW armed me with tools to live life without feeling like I was missing out on the sweeter things. I looked forward to meeting with the group every week and discussing challenges and ways to overcome them. I couldn’t have done this without the group support of DYW and especially without Melissa and Cheryl. It’s definitely hard work but not impossible. With the right people and the right environment, working out and eating better gets easier, and you even start to enjoy it!
I still have a lot more to lose but I plan to do it slowly and continue good healthy eating habits.
